Our last stop on the Peloponnes takes us to the ruins of the once mighty palace of King Agamemnon in Mycenae. It was him who lead the Greeks into the battle of Troy (today in Turkey). Our heads are already overflowing with ancient greek legends. So much history has taken place in the Peloponnes, it seems that the next mythical story is just around the corner. We park our Ferdi on the parking lot outside the gates next to seven large tourist busses. And this is the off season in december. We were surprized to find so many visitors here, however soon realize that it must be because we are getting closer to Athens and that this site is just a day tour away for many tourists. Unfortunately the site didn’t blow us away too much and the service wasn’t very good as there were only few signs and the toilets a total rubbish. We let the numbers run through our head: 8 \u20ac per person times at least 7 busses on what could be the worst day of buisness and they couldn’t even afford toilet seats, let alone the lock on the door or toilet paper? Well we are fine with paying for historcal sites, but this was bad even for the greek resession.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day we cross the Corinth Channel and head towards Athens. The traffic quickly increases and we think about staying a few days, but finally decide not to head into the greek traffic chaos of the main city. After all we both have been to the city before and don’t want to risk an accident with our bus. Instead we detour around the city and head to the port town of Rafina where we take the ferry to the beautiful island of Andros, our goal and home for the winter.<\/p>\n

Unser letzter \u201ehistorischer\u201c Stop auf dem Peloponnes sind die Ruinen des einst m\u00e4chtigen Palastes von K\u00f6nig Agamemnon in Mycenae. Er war es, der die Griechen f\u00fchrte im Krieg gegen Troja, gelegen in der heutigen T\u00fcrkei. So ganz langsam schwirrt uns schon etwas der Kopf von all den griechischen Heldensagen und G\u00f6ttergeschichten. Auf dem Peloponnes hat so viel Geschichte stattgefunden, ein Mythos jagt hier den n\u00e4chsten!<\/p>\n

Wir parken unseren Ferdi auf dem Mycenae-Parkplatz neben sieben gro\u00dfen Reisebussen, wohlgemerkt an einem Nebensaison-Dezembertag. Wir befinden Mycenae nicht sehenswerter als andere Orte, realisieren aber bald, dass wir uns der griechischen Hauptstadt n\u00e4hern, welche nur einen Katzensprung entfernt ist. Wahrscheinlich befinden sich die Busse auf einem Tagesausflug von Athen aus. So viele andere Menschen auf einmal sind wir gar nicht mehr gew\u00f6hnt, nachdem wir vielerorts die pure Nebensaison genie\u00dfen d\u00fcrfen. Wir \u00fcberschlagen kurz die Tageseinnahmen bei 8,00 \u20ac Eintritt p.P. und wundern uns danach \u00fcber den wenigen Service sowie die defekten und nicht sonderlich reinen WCs. Von 4 Damentoiletten waren zwei au\u00dfer Betrieb. Die beiden \u201ein Betrieb\u201c hatten weder Klopapier, noch Klobrillen, noch T\u00fcrklinken oder sonstige Schlie\u00dfvorrichtungen. Immerhin das T\u00fcrbrett hing in der Angel. Und das ganze bei 7 Reisebussen und einer Handvoll Extra-Touris. Wir zahlen echt gerne einen Eintritt in historische St\u00e4tten, wenn sie zu deren Erhalt beitragen, aber wir fragen uns schon, ob bei 8,00 \u20ac Eintritt p.P. nicht mal neue T\u00fcrklinken oder Klobrillen im Budget drin sein sollten, griechische Krise hin oder her \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Wir \u00fcberqueren schlie\u00dflich den Korinth-Kanal, der den Peloponnes quasi zur Insel macht. Auf dem Festland zieht uns der Verkehr schnell in Richtung Hauptstadt Athen. Bleiben wir ein paar Tage in der Hauptstadt? Ja? Nein? Ja? Nein? Mit unserem unklimatisierten Krankenwagen Ferdi in eine Gro\u00dfstadt mit griechisch dominierten Fahrstil?? Allein bei dem Gedanken geraten wir ins Schwitzen. Da wir schon \u00f6fter mal in Athen zu Besuch waren, umfahren wir Athen diesmal auf dem Autobahnring Richtung Rafina. Dort wartet die F\u00e4hre auf die sch\u00f6ne Insel Andros. Zwischenziel erreicht, hier werden wir \u00fcberwintern.<\/p>\n

One needs a lot of imagination for Agamenmon’s Palace, not much is standing these days. A board give a little impression of what it might have looked like. Legend has it that Agamenmon was killed here by his wife and her lover. Later his children had revenge and killed their mother and her lover.

F\u00fcr Agamemnons Palast selbst ben\u00f6tigt man viel Phantasie, denn davon ist nicht mehr viel erhalten. Eine Schautafel gibt einen kleinen Eindruck. Es wird \u00fcbrigens angeommen, dass Agamemnon hier von seiner Frau und deren Geliebten ermordet wurde. Seine Kinder r\u00e4chten seinen Tod durch die T\u00f6tung der Mutter und des Geliebten. <\/div> <\/div>

Grave circle A revield five king burrials that were excavated under which a sensational find was discovered: A golden mask and with the words \u201eI have peered into the eyes of the great Agamemnon\u201c it was presented to the government. However later results showed that it belonged to a different king. Other findings from the graves show the reaches of the trade routes of the city.

Im Grab Zirkel A wurden 5 k\u00f6nigliche Gr\u00e4ber entdeckt und ausgehoben, darunter ein sensationeller Fund: eine goldene Maske! Es stellte sich allerdings sp\u00e4ter heraus, dass diese nicht Agamemnon, sondern einem anderem K\u00f6nig geh\u00f6rte. Aus den Grabbeigaben lies sich auch r\u00fcckverfolgen, mit welchen Regionen Handel betrieben wurde. <\/div> <\/div>

A differnet type of graves are the Tholos Tombs that are in the form of giant cones or beehives. Unfortunately they were found empty but offer extraordinary accustics inside that make your insides vibrate.

Eine andere Grabform sind die Tholos-Grabkammern, in der Form wie ein \u00fcberdimensionaler Kegel oder ein Bienenkorb. Leider wurden diese Grabkammern gepl\u00fcndert aufgefunden, liefern aber eine erstaunliche Akkustik, welche die Eingeweide vibrierern l\u00e4sst. <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <\/div>

In the evening we head over to the Corinth Channel and imagine how it would be like to drive through the azure blue waters below with our Lizzy along the steep stone walls. The region around the channel is rather dull and dirty and a waste plant adds to the olfactory experience. Originally we wanted to find a good place to stay the night and whatch the boats pass, but decide otherwise.

Am Abend fahren wir noch bis zum Korinth Kanal, und stellen uns vor, wie wir mit unserer Lizzy den azurblauen Kanal per Boot zwischen den hohen Felsw\u00e4nden zu passieren. Die Region am hohen Ufer ist hingegen trostlos, dreckig und dank einer Kl\u00e4ranlage auch entsprechend duftig. Eigentlich wollten wir hier \u00fcbernachten und Schiffe gucken, suchen aber schnell das Weite. <\/div> <\/div>

However before we leave a sad moment. We bought lots of famous air dried ham in a mountain town in Montenegro. One of which was supposed to be a Christmas present. But as we left the colder mountain regions a few days ago we couldnt keep it cold enough and they started to mold.

Doch zuvor noch ein trauriger Moment. Wir hatten aus Montenegro aus einem Bergdorf zwei tolle Schinken mitgebracht. Einer davon sollte noch als Weihnachtsgeschenk dienen. Doch seit wir vor ein paar Tagen die k\u00fchlen Bergregionen verlassen haben, wurde es den Schinken wohl zu warm und sie schimmelten! <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <\/div>

After a long search we finally find a nice spot on the beach. Of course we manage to get stuck in the sand at night, but a local from the beach bar quickly lend us a hand. Then it’s the last breakfast on the Peloponnes!

Nach l\u00e4ngerem Suchen finden wir noch einen sch\u00f6nen Schlafplatz am Strand. Leider fahren wir uns in der Dunkelheit erstmal im Sand fest, doch sogleich kommt aus der benachbarten Beachbar ein hilfsbereiter Grieche, der Dine beim Anschieben hilft. Das ist dann das letzte Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck auf dem Peloponnes! <\/div> <\/div> <\/div>
