(Teil 1)

If everything always goes as planned, life would be boring, right? We originally planned only to stay around a month on Andros. But fate had a different plan for us!

After a relaxing time leading up to Christmas and a wonderful Christmas with family and friends we went on a hike on Christmas Morning and found a tiny little orphan on the way, a snow white billy goat baby. One has to know that many farmers in the north of Andros let their animal roam freely across the island. Every house owner therefor should always also own a good fence and/or a dog against the grazing animals.

Our little orphan is realy tiny, probably from a mother with at least 3 kids. The umbilical is fresh but the fur is already dry and clean. After our walk we checked on him again and found him still in the same spot, exhausted, dehydrated and cold. The days are warm but the nights were still very cold and he probably wouldn’t have survived another night all alone. A lot went through our heads at that moment, but in the end we decided to adopt him. We wanted to get him strong again and then give him to a local farmer for his herd. However we never would have thought that a little goat would become so closely attached to us and so quickly. We were sold as new parents within minutes! We aply named him Flocke (German for Snowflake) and fell in love.

Here you will find pictures out of the life of a little goat, Flocke’s first few weeks with us and also of two people who to that point in time had no idea of how to raise a goat. One month on Andros got extended to three and we learned a lot about goats and ourselves. We also learned how to speak goat, see for yourself! To be continued…

"Goat "Goat

Fortsetzung folgt!

"The
The first day: The little bundle was freezing and no energy left in him. We had to get some milk in him right away! At first we only had cows milk and a baby bottle from friends who luckly saved it from their own kids.

Next to the fireplace to warm up. „Rocky“ helped us find the little goat hidden in the bushes. All three look pretty worn out.

"Already
Already in the same night the little one starts to wander around and tries to discover his surroundings, albeit still a bit shaky on his legs.

"We
We feed him milk every 3 hours round the clock at first and very soon he knows that the bottle means food!

"The
The first excursion to a green meadow. It tickels when running!

Erster Ausflug in die grüne Wiese. Das kitzelt beim Laufen!

"Soon
Soon he follows us wherever we go.

"On
On the second day we gear up at the local pharmacy: Special milk powder for raising goats and softer rubber fittings for the bottle. That tastes a lot better than cows milk!

"And
And even jumping around soon works with the new legs 🙂

Dann klappt sogar schon das Bockspringen 🙂

"Everything
Everything that could be a bottle is sucked on.

"At
At breakfast…

Am Frühstückstisch…

"...the
…the first nap of the day is imminent.

"When
When he is awake it usually looks like this.

"Or
Or like this: Climbing everything!

Oder so: Überall raufklettern.

"A
A longer walk might also look like this. Nothing goes anymore! The world is much to exciting!

"Our
Our cat Krümel accepts the little guy, but occasionally shows us a hint of jealousy.

"Here's
Here’s a size comparison of him and Krümel.

"We
We ponder about the plan to reunite him with his or another herd one day. So he needs goat training and needs to get to know other animals. So Mark tries to socialize him with neighbors sheep at first. But little interest on the side of Flocke.

Also muss er dringend andere Tiere kennenlernen.

"He
He completly accepts us as adoption parents on two legs.

"After
After all one can even cuddle with them!!

Mit denen kann man auch kuscheln!!

"We
We drove to near where we found him and find his (probably) herd with many kids.

"One
One goat mother has two offspring and one looks just like Flocke and is the same size. Maybe this was the tripple birth mother that abandoned him. This goat was the only one in the heard who accually came near and had a good sniff at him. But as the picture shows: Flocke (to the left) has no interest at all.

"On
On the contrary, he escapes and runs back to the car and jups right into his box. „What are these strange animals, take me home!“

"Mark
Mark tries once more as the herd is very relaxed.

"We
We are a bit sad that the first encounter with other goats didn’t work out. Our little billy goat doesn’t even dream about leaving his new found parents.

"After
After all, this is where his regular supply of milk and even a hot-water bottle for sleeping comes from.

"Drinking
Drinking works! We even get a little bit of beastmilk from a friend who’s goat also had three kids. We even could be present during the birth!

"That
That was tasty!

Und das war lecker!

"And
And strait to climbing afterwards.

Danach ist Klettern angesagt.

"Nibbling
Nibbling at zippers is great fun!

Und an Reißverschlüssen knabbern ist toll!

"When
When we hide in the garden he always finds us!

"Little
Little rascal!

Frechdachs!

"And
And the next nap awaits!

Und dann kommt das nächste Nickerchen.

"Even
Even grooming works.

Putzen klappt auch schon.

"The
The umbilical is dried and will soon fall off.

"The
The days are long for everyone.

Die Tage sind lang, für alle.

"From
From the start he sleeps in his plastic box. In the beginning he still fit into the small one!

"Cuddling
Cuddling with us would be a lot better, but he accepts his stable and even has a few geckos as company.

"We
We give him lots of things to play with and stuff to climb so he can occupy himself.

"A
A nap is also a great pasttime.

"Or
Or checking out the cats!

Oder die Katzen auschecken!

"Can
Can you eat that? He starts to nibble around a lot and has some favorite flowers already. Thistles are not included in his menue after the test.

"Sometime
Sometime we take him along a short hike. After all he must be able to manage this when in a herd.

"But
But being carried is also nice!

Doch getragen werden ist immer schön!

"And
And soon it’s time for another sleep. That’s the life! Part 2 soon follows!
