At the end of February we leave our beloved Greece, new destinations are waiting! From Patras we take the ferry to Ancona in Italy, the crossing takes 20 hours. In summer there are even camper pitches with electricity on the ferry, but in winter we book an indoor cabin with a shower for a reduced camper price! That’s almost like a cruise \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

Ancona lies so much more north that we encounter snow on our first search for a sleeping place at the end of febuary. While we fall asleep under our thick blankets we are thinking: We want back to the warmth and back to our goat Flocke. This is the first time we don’t really want to travel on.<\/p>\n

But in Italy we have chosen Tuscany as our first destination and the further we drive west to the sea, the warmer it gets. Hard to choose between Florenz and Siena, rennaisance or middle ages? We dicide on the smaller and relaxing Siena in the center of Tuscany. It’s also a UNESCO world heritage site since 1990. The city greets us even in february as lively and plesant which might be due to the 20.000 students. This is quite the percentage as the city only has about 55.000 inhabitants. This stop has been worth it! After all the antique world of Greece we both are very delighted to finally arrive in a new age in Siena!<\/p>\n

Ende Februar verlassen wir unser geliebtes Griechenland, neue Ziele warten! Von Patras aus nehmen wir die F\u00e4hre nach Ancona in Italien, die \u00dcberfahrt dauert 20 Stunden. Im Sommer gibt es auf der F\u00e4hre sogar Camperstellpl\u00e4tze mit Stromanschluss, doch im Winter buchen wir zum reduzierten Camperpreis eine Innenkabine mit Dusche! Das ist ja fast schon eine Kreuzfahrt \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Ancona liegt schon so weit n\u00f6rdlich, dass wir bei der Ankunft und unserer ersten italienischen Schlafplatzsuche Ende Februar im Schnee stehen und eine kalte Nacht mit allen verf\u00fcgbaren Decken hinter uns bringen. Beim Einschlafen schwirren viele Gedanken herum: Wir wollen zur\u00fcck ins Warme und eigentlich wollen wir auch zur\u00fcck zu unserem Ziegenbock Flocke. Das ist das erste Mal, das wir nicht so richtig weiterreisen wollen.<\/p>\n

Doch in Italien haben wir uns als Ziel die Toskana ausgesucht und je n\u00e4her wir der Westk\u00fcste kommen, desto w\u00e4rmer wird es! Wir schwanken zwischen Florenz und Siena, zwischen Rennaisance und Mittelalter. Unsere Entscheidung f\u00e4llt auf das kleinere und gem\u00fctlichere Siena im Zentrum der Toskana, seit 1990 UNESCO Weltkulturerbe. Die Stadt begegnet uns selbst im Februar angenehm lebedig, was vielleicht auch an den circa 20.000 Studenten liegt. Das ist ein betr\u00e4chtlicher Anteil, denn Siena selbst hat nur etwa 55.000 Einwohner. Dieser Stopp hat sich absolut gelohnt und wir beide sind nach der griechischen Antike in Siena nun in einem ganz anderen Zeitalter angekommen!<\/p>\n

As we wait to get on the ferry, we witness dramatic scenes on the grounds of the ferry terminal. Refugees want to hide on or in trucks in order to get on the ferries and thus try to climb over several high barbed wire fences. Police everywhere, sirens sound regularly. We get goose bumps …

W\u00e4hrend wir darauf warten, auf die F\u00e4hre zu fahren, werden wir Zeuge von dramatischen Szenen auf dem Gel\u00e4nde des F\u00e4hrterminals. Gefl\u00fcchtete wollen sich an oder in LKWs verstecken, um auf die F\u00e4hren zu gelangen und versuchen es zu Fu\u00df \u00fcber mehrere hohe Stacheldrahtz\u00e4une. \u00dcberall Polizei, regelm\u00e4\u00dfig heulen Sirenen auf. Wir bekommen G\u00e4nsehaut… <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <\/div>

Almost all trucks and vans, including us, are checked for refugees on board. Our ambulance attracts attention. After the controls we drive to the ferry, which departs with almost two hours delay towards Italy. We are well parked in!

Nahezu alle LKWs und Transporter, auch wir, werden auf Fl\u00fcchtlinge an Bord kontrolliert. Unser Krankenwagen zieht Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Nach den Kontrollen geht es aber auf die F\u00e4hre, welche mit fast zwei Stunden Versp\u00e4tung Richtung Italien startet. Wir sind gut eingeparkt! <\/div> <\/div>

Such a long ferry crossing (20h) shows us again that a cruiseliner would be nothing for us. There are many entertainment options on board, but you have to be really made for that kind of stuff. You can choose between disco, a sauna landscape, massage studio, entertainment shows, casinos, shops or restaurants. We prefer to look over the sea! Spot Mark on the picture?

So eine lange F\u00e4hr\u00fcberfahrt (20h) zeigt uns mal wieder, dass eine Kreuzfahrt nix f\u00fcr uns w\u00e4re. Es gibt viele Entertainment-Angebote an Bord, aber daf\u00fcr muss man echt gemacht sein. Man kann w\u00e4hlen zwischen Disko, Sauna-Landschaft, Massagestudio, Unterhaltungs-Rateshows, Casinos, Shops oder Restaurants. Da schauen wir lieber aufs Meer! Kein Wunder, denn die roten Backsteine erw\u00e4rmen sich sch\u00f6n in der Sonne und es ist eine engenehme Abwechslung zu den schattigen Gassen.
